Sindhi Thadri is a vibrant festival celebrated by the Sindhi community to honour cleanliness and purity before the monsoon season begins. Observed on the 13th day of the Hindu month of Jyestha, Thadri holds deep cultural and religious significance, marked by traditional rituals and special Sindhi food prepared in advance for the day.

What is Sindhi Thadri?

Thadri, which essentially means 'thanda' or 'cold' or 'Thado' in Sindhi language is a day dedicated to Shitala Mata, one who is believed to cure poxes, sores, ghouls, pustules and diseases.

Mata Seetla Devi is believed to be the Goddess of 'Cold' or Thado or Sheetal. Mata Shitla Devi is considered to be the Eldest Sister from all the Avatars of Devi Mata.

There is a belief that hundreds of years ago Chicken Pox had spread in Mohenjo Daro and many people died. One day, a statue of Mata Seetla Devi appeared miraculously from the Earth.

After that, the spread of the disease stopped immediately. Since then Thadri has been celebrated by sindhis. It is strongly believed that Mata protects us from Dangerous diseases like Chicken Pox, Plague, etc.

The next morning a Pooja is performed on the Chulha with Flowers And Sindhi Ankhariyun , Sindoor, Rice Grains, etc. The Thadri fare cooked a day earlier {Sweet Thick Roti 'Sweet' means ''Meetho''  'Thick Roti' means ''Lolo'' {Sindhi Lola / Sindhi Lolo / Mitho Lolo ],  Sindhi koki , Sindhi besani  koki , Sindhi Chotha  ( Sindhi Gaach ) Triangle , Dryfruit Nankhatai   is the Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner for this day. In some households, even Tea is not prepared.
